Position Overview

Job Title:           Vehicle Maintenance Technician

Department:     Vehicle. Maintenance     

Reports To:       Vehicle Maintenance Manager     

Status:              Seasonal, Non-Exempt   

 

SUMMARY

This position assists with the maintenance of all rolling stock at Stevens Pass.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to be insured to drive company vehicles.
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four years experience in auto mechanics and vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical problems of the rolling stock including loaders, snow removal equipment, snow cat machines, snowmobiles, company work vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Repair brakes, transmissions, rear-ends and clutches, hydraulic systems, valves, pumps and electrical vehicle systems.
  • Perform routine vehicle preventative maintenance and tune-ups.
  • Assist with the shop, storage area, and parts room storage, stocking, and cleaning.
  • Report on all maintenance projects and equipment repair.
  • Assist with testing vehicles after completion of repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

TECH 1:  Beginning Tech. at Stevens Pass with mechanical background- This individual should have basic knowledge of Diesel and Gasoline engines, Hydraulic, and Hydrostatic systems.  This person will also be expected to work well with co-workers, lead tech., and supervisors while maintaining a positive work attitude.

 

TECH 2:  This Tech will be expected to have a good working knowledge and trouble shooting ability for Diesel and Gasoline engine, Hydraulic and Hydrostatic systems.  This individual must be able to safely use and instruct others in the use of shop equipment, i.e. Tire Machine, Lift Track, and Boom Hoists.  This individual will be familiar with shop systems such as Oil Water Separator, heat for shop facility and Aux. Power.  Tech 2 should also have basic welding and fabricating skills, and must be able to work and communicate well with co-workers, lead tech., and supervisors while maintaining a positive work attitude.   

                   

TECH 3:  This stage must meet requirements for Step 1 & 2 and is for the Technician with an above average knowledge and trouble-shooting ability for Diesel and Gasoline engines, Hydraulic and Hydrostatic systems.  This individual will be able to safely use and instruct others in the use of shop equipment, i.e. Tire Machine, Lift Track, Boom Hoists, and Diagnostic Machine.  Tech. 3 will require a good working knowledge of all shop systems such as Aux. Power, Fire Suppression, Heating, and Oil Water Separator.  Tech. 3 will also help when necessary with Inventories including consignment, filters, belts, hoses, hydraulic supplies, fuel, lube & oils.  This individual must have the ability to work and communicate well with co-workers, lead tech., and supervisors while maintaining a positive work attitude.  This stage will also be able to take on lead responsibility when necessary.

 

SENIOR/LEAD: This individual must have met requirements of Steps 1, 2, 3, and have an above average knowledge of all shop systems and inventories.  This person will have the ability to lead and prioritize work for technicians.  This individual will be responsible for parts ordering and record keeping on maintenance to all vehicles and implements that go through the vehicle shop.  The Lead Tech. will also share responsibility for parts, lube & oils, and operating supplies inventories.  Lead Tech. must have a positive working attitude and be able to communicate well with co-workers, supervisors, and office personnel.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to finger/handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to sit, climb or balance; stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl.  At times the employee will need to and be able to lift up to 50 pounds or greater with assistance.  The employee will be exposed to: work near moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the working environment is usually loud.
