Job Summary

The snow reporter communicates snow conditions on a regular basis via a variety of web and networking sites as well as by phone. This position acts as the liaison with on-mountain departments to ensure accurate reporting of snow and weather conditions as well as grooming, lift status, and reports. Job duties may include skiing and/or snowboarding at an intermediate level for on-mountain asset gathering, event support, and experiencing snow conditions first-hand so an informed snow report can be produced. Job duties may require working to support other departments during busy times such as the weekends and holidays.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Bachelor degree in Marketing, Communication, Business Administration or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • 1-3 years of marketing or writing experience
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Advanced computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel
  • Experience in electronic media and graphic design desirable
  • Familiarity with content management systems for websites
  • Familiarity with social media and other third party websites pertinent to the job of snow reporting
  • Intermediate skiing and/or snowboarding level
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in winter conditions
  • Submit sample snow report with application  
  • Ability to be insured to operate company vehicles
  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business

Functions & Responsibilities

  • Report snow conditions daily starting at 4am, with multiple reports per day as needed
  • Liaise with the Patrol department and other departments as needed to ensure accurate snow reporting of overnight accumulation both online and in daily snow report email
  • Stay in contact with Grooming, Lift Operations, and Terrain Park crew throughout the day to ensure accurate reporting of lift, run, and Terrain Park status
  • Assist Marketing team in asset gathering, social media outreach, and event production as needed
  • Ski and/or snowboard several times per week to experience snow conditions first hand
  • Perform a variety of clerical/administrative tasks associated with assigned function s including data entry and general office organization utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Update social media such as Facebook and Twitter as directed
  • Assist other departments as needed during busy weekends and holidays


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or fee; reach with arms and hands; climb or balance and talk and hear. The employee is regularly sitting and working at a computer for prolonged periods of times.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work venues are varied and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. The employee must possess the ability to safely travel to work locations by traveling via chairlift(s), skis, and/or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
