Position: Nordic Ski Instructor

Reports To: Nordic Center Manager and Supervisors
Status: Seasonal, hourly
Demonstrate an enthusiasm for skiing and educate all ages and ability levels appropriate to your certification level in group or private lessons. Prepare, deliver and follow up on assigned lessons. Be an ambassador for Stevens Pass to all guests; answer questions and promote our products, services, programs, and the resort. Work levels vary based on customer demand. Perform non-teach duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
•PSIA certification or similar
•At least 18 years old
•Highly organized at all times, in all circumstances and courteous when under pressure.
•Strong communication skills, motivational skills, and interpersonal skills.
•Must be a team player flexible to the changing dynamics of a seasonal business.
•Alpine and Telemark teaching experience is a plus.
•Employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory background screening.
•Providing accurate information to guests regarding trails, all area facilities and services, operating hours, current events and promotions, etc. in a courteous and helpful manner.
•Making each guest feel special and unique to build confidence and create guest loyalty through great experiences in a short time frame. (The length of the lesson will range from 1-6 hours).
•Helping students succeed in whatever way they choose to define as success
•Teaching safety and “Your Responsibility Code” as part of the mountain experience.
•Reaching and assisting students anywhere on the mountain during the lesson.
•Engaging the class 100% of the time, while still focusing on individual and unique student needs.
•Maintaining, developing and utilizing knowledge of best practices of instruction in the sport.
•Being knowledgeable of and able to utilize the teaching concepts of the Stevens Pass curriculum.
•Identifying different learning styles among students and effectively demonstrating different teaching styles to reflect them.
•Identifying ability level in students and adapting you’re teaching and demonstrations to your student’s developmental level and physical abilities, as well as splitting them into appropriate groups when needed.
•Being a good example for the sport and industry by managing personal stress levels, having a positive attitude and communicating enthusiasm for learning.
•Being flexible enough to teach in any program that we offer from time to time.
•Responding quickly and effectively to a wide variety of situations including possible emergencies while maintaining composure and keeping students and fellow employees calm.
•Perform all tasks assigned as part of non-teach time, such as, general cleaning, projects, being assigned to assist another department, etc.
•Perform additional tasks as requested by the General Manager and other Director Team members.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger/handle or feel, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb and balance in winter weather, inclement conditions, occasionally wet, uneven, icy footing. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds; assist fallen students in getting up and maintaining balance. Must have good close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform the duties of this job in all weather conditions.
