Position Overview

Job Title: Building and Grounds Technician

Department: Building Systems
Reports To: Facility Operations Manager           
Status: Seasonal/Hourly

 

Job Summary

This position is responsible assisting with the daily operational maintenance and repair of the facilities, building systems, and equipment. Duties include maintaining, repairing, and tending to the resort facilities including restaurant equipment, heating and electrical systems, and plumbing in addition to assisting with snow removal, special projects, and the overall upkeep and organization of the repair shop and tools. This position may be called to assist with basic janitorial duties of the facilities, snow removal of assigned areas and emergency exits, and assisting with shipping and receiving services within the loading dock. Additional duties and responsibilities include assisting with repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment as well as working on assigned capitol maintenance projects.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing, painting, and drywall
  • Ability to read and understand documents related to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, MSDS forms and procedure manuals
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize and apply basic math skills
  • Current HVAC/R certification is highly desired
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to be insured to operate company vehicles
  • Experience with restaurant equipment and refrigeration preferred
  • Familiarity with the electrical circuits and National Electric Code
  • Ability to safely operate power tools
  • Experience in electrical maintenance and safety
  • Available to be on call for facility operations or equipment emergencies
  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business

Duties

  • Perform repair and maintenance to the facilities, equipment, heating and electrical systems as needed
  • Assist with capitol maintenance projects including renovation, remodeling, repairs, carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing, drywall, painting and other special projects as assigned
  • Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, floors, doors, building framework; working from blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions
  • Install windows, glass, doors, and partitions; replace damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, or sheet plastic wall coverings
  • Prepare and paint walls, apply finish, install or repair carpets as required
  • Assist with recommendations for supply purchases
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities as needed
  • Assist with the installation of electrical wiring and equipment, circuits, refrigeration, and wiring remodeling projects; repair and replace wiring as needed
  • Safely operate the proper tools and equipment, ensuring the appropriate personal protective equipment is utilized for the project
  • Assist with the electrical and manual locks and control panels and assigned access to maintain building security
  • Tend to the cleanliness and organization of the repair shop and work space areas
  • Assist with shipping and receiving services, organization, and cleaning schedule of the loading dock; assist with other department deliveries and shipments, communicate, coordinate, and assist outside carriers
  • Respond and address all facility operations calls, maintenance and service requests, needs, and emergencies
  • Assist with maintaining records of scheduled maintenance procedures
  • Conduct regular walk-through of the resort and facilities to visually assess building needs, maintenance, safety, and security
  • Assist with the snow removal from fire exits, building entrances, stairs, and walkways using shovels and snow melting products

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; balance; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and rarely required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee may frequently walk and balance on stairs, wet, slick, snow-covered, or uneven surfaces.
